Our Story
With decades of experience in hospitality, Martin and Charlotte Bull saw the potential to craft something truly extraordinary at The George at Burpham.
Having raised their family just down the road, they were no strangers to the charm and beauty of the South Downs. Together, they poured their passion for fine dining and heartfelt hospitality into reviving this 18th Century Grade II listed pub. Their efforts have been met with resounding praise, earning The George recognition in the Estrella Top50 Gastropubs awards, and multiple AA Rosettes.
But the story of The George runs even deeper. Rescued by the very community it serves, this historic pub is proudly community-owned—a testament to the people who believed in its significance and worked tirelessly to preserve it. We aim to source the majority of our produce from within 20 miles, partnering with local farms, fishmongers, and dairies to create a menu that mirrors the seasons and supports our local environment. From farm-fresh vegetables to the finest Sussex cheeses, every dish tells a story of the South Downs.
